More about the speakers

Stephen Smith
Software Presales Lead Africa at Hewlett Packard Enterprise

Stephen Smith is a 15+ year veteran of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) Software. He has enjoyed a multi-faceted career in the IT world. He has learned things he never dreamt he would, met people he never dreamt he would and been places he never dreamt he would. He started in the IT industry in the days of the Mainframe in the mid-1980s. Since then he has evolved through Client Server technology, different operating systems like Netware and Linus, then on to Networks in support and design roles, then on to Security working with Firewall and encryption technology. Then on to HPE where he has worked in the Software Presales arena initially in the OpenView solution suite. Initially his focus was on IT Management but it expanded and changed as the HP Software portfolio grew over the years. The portfolio was very aligned with ITILv2 but with HP being very involved with the development of ITIL v3 which expanded into the Service Strategy and Development areas there was a gap which got filled with the acquisition of Mercury International. SO his focus changed again to the Application development and testing side of the HPE Software solutions. The last 6 years has seen the formulation and growth of things like IT4IT and DevOps. These have been a keen interest for him and he has moved into consulting for HPE at customers who are looking to increase agility and to develop DevOps practices within their organisations.

Jason Suttie
Head: Engineering at Foundery division of Rand Merchant Bank

Born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) Jason grew up spending large amounts of his time writing programs in any programming language he could get his hands on. This keen interest, led to a post-graduate Engineering degree at WITS with focus on Computer Science and Telecommunications. Technical leadership is a natural fit for Jason, and his career in Telecommunications, Enterprise Software and Consulting lead him to his career at RMB in 2010. Jason became Head of Development & Integration – which later expanded to Head of Core Technology to encompass a broader portfolio that included BI. Jason established strong Centers of Excellence as well as introduced Agile to RMB. In 2015 Jason also become an ambassador in the DevOps movement in South Africa, as well as internationally. Jason most recently ran the RMB Head of Technical Architecture role and now fills the Head of Engineering role at Foundery which officially started late 2016.
