More exciting information about the HPE Software Spin-Merge with MicroFocus

Posted By Administration, Tuesday, June 13, 2017
Updated: Friday, September 1, 2017

We wanted to keep you up-to-date about some important questions that have been frequently asked by our user community members.

Why is HPE Spinning and Merging with Micro Focus?

HPE made the decision to spin-merge HPE Software with Micro Focus to create two businesses that are stronger, more focused, delivering faster outcomes to customers. The spin-merger creates a new industry player, Micro Focus, which will be valued at $4.5B and be one of the world's largest pure-play enterprise software companies.

Why is Micro Focus the perfect company to take on HPE Software assets?

Micro Focus has a proven track record of managing both growing and mature software assets. Together, HPE’s Software assets and Micro Focus will have global reach and strong go-to-market capability with nearly 4,000 salespeople and deep R&D resources – ensuring that our customers continue to receive best-in-class software solutions. The combination will enable higher levels of investment in growth areas, while maintaining a stable platform for mission-critical software products.

When will the HPE Spin-Merger with Micro Focus be complete?

The transaction is expected to be complete in the second half of HPE’s fiscal 2017, with customer and partner commitments remaining unchanged.

What will the HPE ownership of the new company be?

HPE will not have an ownership stake in the new organization – it will be an independent publicly traded company. HPE shareholders will own 50.1 percent of the new organization.

What will the leadership of the new company be?

Chris Hsu will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer of the combined HPE Software and Micro Focus company pending deal close, which is currently targeted to be completed by approximately August 31, 2017. Until then, Stephen Murdoch will remain chief executive of Micro Focus, and then become chief operating officer.

Discover The New

Posted By Chris Hsu, Monday, June 12, 2017

With our sights set on September 1st for the planned launch of the new combined company, we are preparing to join forces with Micro Focus to become the 7th largest pure-play software company in the world, with combined estimated annual revenues of $4.5 billion and 18,000 employees that will serve 40,000 customers. This will set the stage for us to shape the software industry delivering enterprise-scale solutions across the hybrid IT landscape, while focusing on value-creating M&A to further expand the portfolio.

I’m honored to have been named CEO of the new combined company following completion of the transaction, and I am excited to have appointed my leadership team for the new combined company, which will take effect on our expected "day one”, September 1st. The new team will bring together a strong, balanced mix of leaders from both HPE Software and Micro Focus, and marks a major milestone on our road to close.

At HPE Software, our mission is to provide our customers with a best-in-class portfolio of enterprise-grade scalable software with analytics built in. We put customers at the center of our innovation and build products that our teams can be proud of. This mission is absolutely critical to helping our customers Discover the New– across our company, innovations and portfolio while leveraging the IT environments they have today.

As we approach this new chapter, I look forward to keeping you informed on our progress. To help with this, we are excited to launch our new externally-facing microsite today as well, fully dedicated to HPE Software news, innovations, and updates on the spin-merge. Please check it out and Discover the New!

Presidents' Blog

Richard Bishop, President
Vivit Worldwide
Board of Directors
 Mark Herbert, Vice President
Vivit Worldwide
Board of Directors

Despite uncertainty and industry speculation about HPE Software’s future, we’ve been as busy as ever working with HPE to bring you information and updates about HPE software in general and hot topics such as DevOps, BigData, ITSM and Cloud Computing.

Since the last President’s blog we’ve continued to grow dramatically and have increased our membership by over 20% in less than 6 months.

As HPE restructures in anticipation of the merger with Micro Focus later this year, we’ve seen some changes in people at HPE that we deal with on a day to day basis. We’re delighted to be working more closely with John Jeremiah who is one of the founders of TechBeacon. John has a passion for sharing insight and advice on key industry trends and it’s great to be working with him to bring more information to our members and help HPE Software to remain engaged with their customers.

This isn’t the first time that Vivit has faced a period of change. Vivit started as OVFI and was focussed primarily on the OpenView toolset. As HPE software expanded through the acquisition of Mercury Interactive and other software companies, we reinvented the user group to cater for the expanding customer base. The merger with Micro Focus provides us with an opportunity to re-evaluate what we do well and look for areas to improve to ensure that we remain your trusted software user community.

Until details of the merger are announced in greater detail, all we can be sure of is that we face a period of change. After all, nothing stays the same for long in the technology industry. Ahead of the merger, we’ve already had conflicting requests from our members as well as our sponsors at HPE. Some people want more webinars, others want more face to face meetings. Faced with these conflicting viewpoints, we’re doing our best to keep everybody happy. We’ve invested in a new webinar platform to help make our web content more engaging (we can now include live and recorded video as well as screen sharing in our webinars). As well as this we’re working on a Vivit mobile app to help members stay up to date with the latest news and view on-demand content.

Vivit will have a presence at the US ITOM summit, ADM summit in Dublin, HPE Protect conference and other events and conferences throughout 2017. It is likely that we will attend a larger number of smaller conferences rather than a small number of larger ones. We hope that this will allow us to become more engaged with our membership and continue to work with you and HPE / Micro Focus to help you get the most from the software that you use and the user community as a whole.

The Container Deployment Foundation – the future of IT Operations Management

Posted By Vesna Soraic, Tuesday, May 2, 2017
Updated: Monday, May 1, 2017
Last month, HPE announced the launch of containerized versions of its HPE IT Operations Management (ITOM) suites to accelerate and streamline the continuous operations of IT management software for on-premise or cloud operational environments. At HPE Software, we are re-architecting our products and suites in containers and microservices. We want to enable IT to empower their businesses to move faster. Our HPE ITOM suites enable IT organizations to realize three fundamental requirements – Easier, Faster and Transformative.
Easier - IT Operations toolset have to deliver value quickly and easily. We have radically simplified our ITOM products set to four key suites, and we made them easy to consume, easy to deploy and easy to integrate. As a quick reminder, our four suites are:
Faster – IT Operations needs modern software to accelerate delivery and processes. HPE ITOM suites are based on Container Deployment Foundation, the modern architecture for IT organizations committed to own the digitization and enable business to move faster. This new architecture is crucial for IT that want to adopt the DevOps principles – in short it enables continuous operations. Containers are our new unit of delivery which will make for consistent and simplified distribution, installation, upgrades and operations across our ITOM portfolio. Suites come in pre-integrated containers, which also allows us to unify the license model and shared services. Installation and upgrade time is significantly shorter and in our next release we will offer rolling upgrades with zero downtime. Container Deployment Foundation is based on Docker containers and Kubernetes orchestration. Kubernetes technology helped us to embed auto-scaling and automated and simple HA and DR in each suite. Container Deployment Foundations makes our HPE ITOM software flexible to be deployed anywhere, on premise, in virtualized environment or in public cloud. Some of our suites, such as ITSMA, offer the beta version to be deployed on AWS EC2. Over the next few quarters we will provide support for the further AWS services as well as additional public cloud providers.

ITOM containerized suite marketecture
Transformative – IT can change the way it works: smarter, more collaborative and relevant. HPE ITOM suites provide the innovative services such as pervasive analytics to equip IT with actionable insights and automation, ChatOps for smart collaboration, Business value dashboards for the exceptional insight and user engagement, modern workload management which can manage containerized applications end-to-end, and more.
Our strategy is to release HPE ITOM suites every three months. With just released Container Deployment Foundation, our suites have incredible time-to-value.
We continue offering our suites in a current, non-containerized delivery model and there are no plans to obsolete it. You have the choice how to get your software delivered!
To learn more about the new big features, containerized ITOM suites, please read the ITOM announcement blog from Tom Goguen, VP/GM of the ITOM Business Unit within HPE Software, ITSMA blog The containers have landed: accelerate and streamline your continuous operations and Operations Bridge blog Organic changes that transform – Operations Bridge evolution announced
