Jan Å Pontéus

Test Manager
Swedish Tax Agency

Sweden Chapter Leader

  • Runs improvement projects.
  • Over 15 years within SW test; as test lead in telecom, process/method specialist
  • Likes the ”vertical” approach: Processes, methods and tools to be mastered by one person/team to optimize all layers, Including the world around us (ITIL…).
  • Likes to hold courses, typically in test theory or crash courses in ALM
  • Background in HW (telecom, professional audio). Almost as fun as test tools and processes.

”The main purpose, I think, with a community like Vivit, is to give colleagues the possibility to meet in an informal way. Some people you may know a long time. Some are new. All have something valuable to tell. Since the best information you can get is the information you didn’t asked for (because you didn’t know it existed), informal meetups are essential for getting you out of your box. Many of us struggle with everyday chores, but by meeting others, whether they have gone further or share your situation, you get new strength. Add the presentations and the possibility to share thoughts with HPE staff, time spent at Vivit meetings is generally really rewarding.”

Survey on AppSec Integration into DevOps

Posted By Cindy Blake, Wednesday, August 31, 2016
Updated: Monday, August 29, 2016

By: Cindy Blake
Product Marketing Manager
Hewlett Packard Enterprise

Many organizations are adopting DevOps practices to increase the efficiency of their software development lifecycles. Increasing the frequency of software deployment is great. But the benefits of these changes will be lost if the applications are not secure. However, it is hard to know if applications in deployment are insecure unless they have already been breached.

We have created a brief (10 minute) survey to understand how application security testing is being integrated into DevOps today. The questions will capture who is responsible for vulnerability testing and what practices respondents' organizations are implementing. We are targeting developers, IT operations, security and all others that are involved in the software development lifecycles at their organizations.

A few lucky participants of our survey will win a prynt mobile photo printer or motorola 360 smart watch. You may also opt to receive the aggregate results via email at the conclusion of our survey.

All survey responses are appreciated. The results will allow us to raise awareness of the current state of application security as a component of DevOps practices. If you would like to participate please follow the link below.

Resting on our Laurels? Never! Announcing the HPE Service Anywhere August 2016 Release

Posted By Lyndsey Zajac, Friday, August 5, 2016
Updated: Friday, July 22, 2016

By: Julie Azoulai
Service Anywhere Product Marketing Manager
Hewlett Packard Enterprise

In today’s workplace, when employees search for information, look for services, and request assistance, they expect their company to provide a consumer-oriented experience from their service desk, as if they are shopping on Amazon. To meet expectations, IT organizations must employ a service desk that offers an engaging, easy-to-use interface, self-service functions, and a Google-like experience for both end-users and agents.

HPE Service Anywhere, our Big Data SaaS Service Desk, does all of this and more, and our customers are feeling the benefits. Recently at the HPE ITSM Customer Forum in Berlin and HPE Discover in Las Vegas, customers presented their successful implementations of Service Anywhere. They are seeing fewer service request tickets, increased employee satisfaction, and significant cost savings.

To keep up the momentum and to continue to bring value to our customers, Service Anywhere is announcing a new, feature packed August 2016 release. Below are a few highlights.

Mobility: Service on the go

The Service Anywhere Self-Service Portal is now available as a new, native mobile application, called HPE Propel. Featuring live notifications and an intuitive card layout, it uses Big Data analytics to understand user activity and to display the right information at the right time. Employees can easily self-solve issues, order services from a catalog, submit tickets, and track requests while on the go. HPE Propel mobile app already works with Service Anywhere, and in the future it will connect to additional catalogs and services. Look for the Android version now in the Google Play Store and soon as an iOS app in the Apple Store.

IT efficiency for Service Desk Managers, Agents, and Administrators

The release also includes new capabilities that will increase the satisfaction of service desk managers, agents, and administrators, for example:

  • On-call schedules allow automatic routing of tickets to on-duty agents including configurable calendars, assignment strategies, and notification preferences - which can be used independently from on-call schedules
  • ChatOps-style integration with Slack and Hubot enables collaboration and fast incident resolution.Chats between agents, managers and other stakeholders are automatically added to tickets
  • Project management and asset management enhancements
  • Dedicated support for Human Resources support processes

Fast and Secure

With the August 2016 release you can also deliver services faster and protect critical functions without disruptions, for example:

  • Secure critical actions by requiring a second-PIN base code for access and an additional auto-generated code
  • New native LDAP integration enables synchronizing persons and groups from Active Directory systems to Service Anywhere without an additional middleware
  • Workflow debug tool enables administrators to quickly debug issues that may arise in the workflow of a record
  • Internal browser and network performance indicators give our SaaSagents the tools to make your application run faster

Above is only a quick snapshot of what this release offers. Check out the new features by registering for the HPE Service Anywhere free trial.

To see a demonstration of the new features, join our Vivit Webinar on September 8. Please register here. We hope to see you there!

Get FREE Self-Service of Passwords

Posted By Lyndsey Zajac, Friday, August 5, 2016
Updated: Tuesday, July 26, 2016

By Finn Jensen
Service Anywhere Product Marketing Manager

Password requests are clogging the service desk

When IT-security management demands the use of an advanced password policy to increase security, this creates problems for the users. When passwords have to be changed every 60-90 days and must contain at least 10 characters and include different types of characters, etc., then users forget their passwords!! According to several studies, password-related calls amount to 20-35% of all calls to the service desk.

At HPE Discover in Las Vegas, FastPassCorp and HPE offered Password self-service portal for FREE for Service Anywhere customers. FastPassCorp now extends this offer to all VIVIT users representing organizations with 2,000-30,000 AD users for the next 6 months. YES: It is for FREE as in an annual cost of zero US$!!

Free self-service of Active Directory passwords for VIVIT members

With FastPass Cloud your users can call the FastPass Cloud portal for direct password self-service for Windows / AD passwords. The basic portal and the mobile portal is for FREE for at least the next 4 years!

Above illustration shows how to connect from HPE Service Anywhere, but this is just one example of access. When the user accesses the portal, she will authenticate with answers to personal questions (a combination of company-defined and user-defined questions). The user then makes her own new password guided by the company password policy.

Users who prefer to do self-service from their Smartphones can do so too!

Additional options available

From the Free FastPass Cloud, customers can upgrade to the highest level of password self-service process as expressed in Best Practices for Password self-service.

The annual service fee for above functions depend on total number of users and the combination of functions. Contact us for an individual quote.

More information

is available from the FastPassCorp WEB-site

Join us at the VIVIT webinar the 1st of September!

The FastPass software is externally certified for WEB security according to the standards from: PSI, Owasp and SANS-Cyber certified by Indusface Pty.

Christopher Carpenter
CEO and President
Bienabee Technologies
Seattle Chapter Leader

Chris Carpenter is an entrepreneur and the co-owner of Bienabee Technologies ( located in Bellevue, WA. Bienabee was founded in 2013 and is a leading SDLC solutions and software company that specializes in delivering best practice Agile, DevOps, & Waterfall methodologies to solve complex QA Problems.  Mr. Carpenter enjoys any opportunity to share his industry leading expertise by speaking at Vivit and HPE Discover sessions.

As an HPE Resale Partner, Bienabee gets to work closely with HPE R&D to help shape the future of the HPE Application Delivery Management (ADM) toolsets and to work on the most complex of customer solutions including being a design partner at the TriZetto Corporation with the HPE Agile Manager toolset.  Chris’ mission is to ensure his company’s clients are receiving the maximum return on their investments in their HPE ADM tools as well as the strategies to make any project a successful one.

What I like about volunteering for Vivit:

"Being apart of the Vivit community has been a wonderful experience. At my very first Vivit meeting I was asked to speak on my work with HPE’s Business Process Testing at Portland General Electric. I was a bit nervous but after I started my presentation, the premise of Vivit clicked for me. These fellow members weren’t there to be sold on a product or concept, they were there to learn from my experiences.  The reason they attended the meeting was driven by their own internal quest for knowledge.  Now as the Vivit leader for the Seattle Chapter, I have the ability to help others grow which is the most rewarding aspect of being a Chapter leader.  In our Chapter we pride ourselves on finding interesting new topics, meeting great speakers, and networking with other Seattle technology professionals."

It’s an Exciting Time to be with Vivit – Let’s Take A Cruise!

Posted By Lyndsey Zajac, Wednesday, July 6, 2016
Updated: Monday, June 27, 2016

By Mark Ford
Membership Chair
Vivit Board of Directors

Hi everyone, I’m Mark Ford, current Membership Director at Vivit Worldwide. As Membership Director I get to be involved in many of the activities at Vivit and we have several upcoming items that I am very excited about! I’d like to take you on a little tour of what you can expect to see in the coming year. You could even consider me your cruise director for the next few moments. My clipboard is in hand so grab a cool drink and let’s see what’s in store as we take a cruise with Vivit!

Port 1: New Logo - This is always an exciting topic and it’s a great opportunity for Vivit to re-express itself. Our current logo/colors have been around for several years and while they are very recognizable, we feel it’s time for a new look and feel. We haven’t landed on a final logo yet but we’ve gone through a few iterations and edits and it’s going to be expressive, bold, informative, and stylish.

Port 2: Website Rebrand - You may have noticed our website layout is a bit dated as well. We’ve contracted with our website host to come up with a sleek website design that is modern, responsive, and mobile friendly. The colors will match our new logo color scheme so we can put the pinkish-purple and orange colors to rest. We know it can be challenging at times to find information on our site so we’ll make sure it targets what our Vivit members need the most. And you’ll be able to access it on a smartphone browser without needing a microscope!

Port 3: Newsletter Format Update - We’re proud of the content and information that we bring you each month with the Vivit InForum Newsletter. We’ll still provide great articles and Vivit updates but in a format that is easier to skim through and grab just what you need. It will be bold, attractive, and eye catching - maybe even suitable for framing!

Port 4: New Webinar Platform - We’re currently researching new webinar platforms to provide a richer experience for our sponsored and SIG webinars. We’re looking for a platform that provides more options to keep the audience engaged and works well with our website registration system so Vivit members won’t have to fill out all those fields every time they register for a webinar. We’re also focusing in on platforms that don’t require proprietary installs that might be blocked at your workplace. You’ll be able to sign up easier and attend more webinars than ever before - and we’ll have many more great ones to look forward to!

Back Home Again - Which brings us back to our original port of call. It was shorter than a 3 hour tour but hopefully you found something enjoyable to look forward to. We’re working hard to implement these changes by the end of this year so you won’t have to wait too long. If it seems like a lot of changes and you’re concerned we’re changing Vivit too much - not to worry! We’ll still be Vivit and we’ll still be your Independent HPE Software User Community. Our commitment to you as a Vivit member and HPE software customer will not waver or change in the least. But we do hope you find us easier to use, more helpful than before, and beneficial to you in every way that we can be.

P.S. If you haven’t taken the Vivit Member survey yet, now would be a great time to do so. It’s very short (only 10 multiple choice questions) and you could win a pair of Bose wireless headphones – which will come in very handy on your next cruise! We value your feedback!

On behalf of everyone at Vivit, thanks and happy cruising!

Every industry today is being impacted by the presence of digital innovation and disruption. Software is driving new ways to engage customers, partners and deliver value. As a result, IT Teams are working rapidly to increase the speed in which they deliver digital value while maintaining or increasing the impact of their digital user experience.

This relentless pursuit of speed, quality and scale are driving IT application teams to evolve the way they plan, design, code, test and deliver software into data centers and the cloud easily, securely, with high performance and ultimately an amazing user experience. IT organizations are looking to proven best practices such as Agile, Lean and DevOPs delivery to achieve that balance of speed, quality and scale.

To address this, HPE has delivered an evolved ALM experience that accelerates lean, DevOps delivery. HPE simplifies IT Service Management

Posted By Michael Potts, Thursday, June 16, 2016
Updated: Thursday, May 26, 2016

 By Michael Pott
 Senior Product Marketing Manager
 Hewlett Packard Enterprise

A new on-premises ITSM offering, a customer appreciation program, and Common Criteria Certification take IT Service Management to the next level.

New offering: HPE ITSM Automation Suite

The HPE ITSM Automation Suite provides a simple way to consume, deploy, and maintain on-premises IT Service Management software. It provides software and licenses required to build your ITSM solution, starting with a Big Data service desk and then extending to comprehensive use cases like Service Asset and Configuration Management (SACM). The suite comes in two editions.

HPE ITSM Automation Suite Express Edition includes:

  • Service Manager
  • Smart Analytics
  • Universal CMDB

HPE ITSM Automation Suite Premium Edition includes:

  • Service Manager
  • Smart Analytics
  • Universal CMDB
  • Universal Discovery
  • Asset Manager
  • Operations Orchestration
  • IT Business Analytics

For more information refer to the HPE ITSM website or contact your local HPE Sales Representative or HPE Preferred Partner.

Customer Appreciation Program – your path to the Big Data service desk

Based on HPE Haven technology, Service Manager Smart Analytics leverages Big Data to simplify interactions with your service desk and to increase your service desk’s efficiency. Smart ticketing enables users to open tickets by simply sending a picture of an error message, or by describing the request using natural language. Smart ticketing also automates the classification of tickets in the service desk to decrease resolution times. Hot topic analytics intelligently identifies clusters of data from IT processes and other data sources for proactive problem management. Smart search provides a global and context-aware search across Service Manager process modules and external data sources to find the right answers in a given context quickly. For a brief demo of these capabilities watch this short HPE Service Manager Smart Analytics video.

HPE now offers a Customer Appreciation Program (CAP) for existing Service Manager customers. The program allows customers to optimize current license entitlements and also add the Smart Analytics capabilities at a very attractive price. As a result, customers end up with all Service Manager modules including Smart Analytics synchronized to the same quantities.

For details about this program please contact your local HPE Sales Representative or HPE Preferred Partner.

Secure ITSM: Common Criteria Certification

HPE ITSM further demonstrates a strong commitment to security through third party evaluation. Our ITSM products have undergone evaluation in accordance with internationally accepted criteria and a government-managed framework.

Asset Manager 9.50 and Universal CMDB and Discovery 10.21 have received Common Criteria Certification. Service Manager is listed as pending and is expected to receive certification soon.

HPE ITSM Automation Suite is a big step towards simplifying ITSM solutions. To learn more about this exciting news plus the strategy and direction of HPE IT Service Management Automation Suite, please join our Vivit Webinar on June28.
