"I'm very excited about being a team leader for the Performance Engineering SIG. I also hope to learn as much or more from the community than I offer."

Keep up with the speed of change – Three tips for smart testing

Posted By Emma Dowey, Thursday, November 5, 2015
Updated: Wednesday, October 21, 2015

By Emma Dowey
EMEA Marketing Manager
Intellicorp

The 2015-16 World Quality Report finds that business transformation initiatives are limited by testing capacity, and that despite some growth in budgets, we’re challenged with working smarter to deliver better quality for less effort. The report states that over half (54%) of respondents have adopted agile development environments, however the main challenges of time, cost and effort remain the same.

Below we outline three strategies used by our customers to adopt better testing methodologies and a continuous delivery approach.

1 Integrate – Finding a way to integrate applications seamlessly is crucial to DevOps. Tony Auriene, CEO of Elucidation Technologies states "The next steps in SAP testing innovation must continue to focus on risk based testing and tool integration.” By integrating tools such as IntelliCorp’s LiveCompare into your HP ALM and SAP environment, you can achieve zero production defects.

2 Automate – We want to automate more of the change cycle, not just our test scripts. Why waste time manually assessing the impact of change on systems? How do we know that impacted functionality is even testable? Software such as IntelliCorp’s LiveCompare allows companies to reduce the scope of SAP testing by 85%. "This is something that was really important to me and the team in my former role. Some of our transactions took weeks to test,” explains Tony.

3 Regulate – The World Quality Report cites security as being the number one priority for QA and testing executives. Pressure to release new functionality faster can lead to incomplete security checks and this can result in significant consequences for the business. By integrating software into your HP ALM and SAP environment, you can protect critical data from unauthorized access and ensure compliance with rules and regulations. "The ability to quickly understand who has access to your systems and what they can do is vital if you want to protect the organization and its data,” adds Chris Trueman, CTO at IntelliCorp. "As part of a secure and stable systems development approach, many of our customers use LiveCompare to enforce secure coding standards, implement automated security checks, and analyze end-user provisioning.”

Find out more about integrating IntelliCorp tools with HP ALM and SAP at HPE Discover in London this December. Contact IntelliCorp today to book a specific time to meet at the conference, or visit our booth and learn how to simplify SAP testing and guarantee zero production defects.

The show goes on! Introducing the new HP Propel 2.01!

HP Propel
Product Marketing Manager

We are living in a digital era, where software applications are starting to rule our businesses—and our lives. We as customers, citizens and employees want applications that aren’t just functional, secure and efficient but are also increasingly engaging and entertaining. We have a need to be delighted, and our expectations are always increasing. These degrees of entertainment and delight are relative and subjective, and for us in the software industry and IT, this is job security. We will need to constantly create new gigs and make sure that "the show must go on” to keep users happy.

But what does this mean in practice? Software application architecture is receiving wide-population recognition and awareness like never before. This awareness means that it is at least equally (or in reality much more) important as the application design. Today’s modern applications are very composite and granular; they are based on micro-services in contrast to monolithic applications which every IT department still owns from the past.

Micro-service architecture and their loose coupling structure in applications ensures that the applications can be changed quickly with minimal impact on surrounding applications’ parts. In addition IT needs an integration platform that is open, scalable and easily configurable. The platform needs to allow easy plug-and-play of the older systems of record without impacting the user experience. With micro services, APIs, integration platform and modern portal, nevertheless how many vintage applications you have, your IT show can begin.

We created HP Propel with apps engagement, entertainment and constant-changing in mind. We understand the pace of business and we want to empower you to keep pace.

HP Propel 2.01

HP Propel 2.01 is now available. Here is the subset of some of the new and enhanced capabilities that this version offers:

  • Self-system diagnostics—As you know, HP Propel is created from micro services with built-in resilience and has many moving parts. The diagnostics feature allows administrators to quickly see the performance status of all components in the system, such as memory and deadlocks, services availability, request statistics, traffic and configuration checks. Detailed graphs also show the status of the interconnected systems which reduces the time and costs of running HP Propel in production.

Figure 1

  • Enhanced request of behalf—Helps users select from a list of allowed individuals and roles to order for.

Figure 2

  • Cloud service subscription apps—New enhancements allow the user to take the service instance action.

Figure 3

  • Improved native catalog—Administrators can create the offerings directly in Propel native catalog even easier than before.

Figure 4

  • Easier configuration options—Administrators can now configure and modify suppliers for their organizations via the web UI.

HP Propel empowers IT to act as a service broker so that IT can remain the organization’s leader in technology selection and adoption. Watch this video and see how you can develop systems of engagement to enhance interactions between people and complex technology and significantly increase your users’ satisfaction. Jan Czajkowski
Quality Center Consultant
SQS Sweden
Sweden Chapter Leader

As a consultant, Jan Czajkowski has found much benefit in the interactions he has with Vivit groups and colleagues.

He’s the head of Vivit’s Sweden Chapter and has been around since the earliest days of Vivit.

"You get a lot of interesting discussion with colleagues from other companies. For me, as a consultant, it’s an important way of marketing myself,” he said. "People have different kinds of experiences, especially requirements for individual customers. You can always learn a lot by talking to other people around these issues.”

Czajkowski mostly uses HP ALM and the products associated with it, such as HP UFT and HP Sprinter.

Right now, one of his projects as an HP ALM specialist is helping H&M roll out new systems to various countries. H&M, based in Stockholm, is known for its "fast-fashion” clothing, which means it moves quickly from trend to trend.

"There’s a lot of testing going on at H&M. They are expanding installation and automation tools,” he said. "It’s an interesting place to be."
