The Season of Giving – ADM Virtual Customer Days (VCD)

Posted By Jonathon Wright, Monday, December 16, 2019

What a journey the last few months has been, the Vivit volunteers have been working like Santa’s little helpers to prepare for the biggest day(s) of the year! The first ever Virtual Customer Days (VCD)!

No matter if you have been naughty or nice, everyone was invited! Best of all, it is never too late, to share with a colleague the joys of VCD! Just tell them to register by following the Call to Action and just select ADM or the upcoming ITOM event starting next week.

Call to Action – Sign up to the Virtual Customer Days events by simply navigating to the community site, then select Virtual Customer Days and either ADM or ITOM then simply register totally FREE!

When we were first asked to host two flagship events, we knew it would be our opportunity for some gift giving to the community during this festive season. We were hoping for a Christmas miracle, which totally came true in the form of the awsometastical, Joe Colantonio!

Avoiding giving away any spoilers ahead of what could end up, the community trilogy to rival the rise of Skywalker, I wanted to highlight some of the social media banter over the last 48hrs!

Episode I - The Phantom Menace

“The Automation Cyborg aka Vivit President kept on dropping in”:

Episode II – Attack of the Mercury Merch

“The @DarkArtsWizard aka Paul Grossman started off the Captain Mercury craze, can you spot all three dolls?”:

If you're following Agile methodology, what's working for you in regards to automation?

Posted By Stephanie Konkoy, Wednesday, November 15, 2017

Question by Vivit Member:

If you're following Agile methodology, I'd love to know what's working for you in regards to automation. Do you have separate automation teams or are they embedded in the agile teams? Are they getting pulled in to do manual testing to meet deadlines?

An Agile Maturity Assessment

Posted By David Parker, Tuesday, January 3, 2012

We recently sent a team of consultants from my company to conduct a formal assessment of a medium sized healthcare firm’s Agile capabilities, and I thought it might be of interest to this group. We sent two consultants on site, and over the course of three days, conducted interviews and made observations in 5 areas –

• Value delivery
• Agile engineering
• Project Management
• Product management
• Environment and Organizational Culture

The investigation also took input on the demographics of the individual project being examined, the stakeholders involved and the competitive/regulatory environment in which the organization as a whole operates. Understanding the context in which an organization operates is crucial to understanding the optimal level of Agility, and thus, the plan of action.

Not every areas needs to be top-ranked to enable the company to achieve its goals. In fact, on this particular assessment we found that only one needed urgent attention – Project Management (by which we mean the techniques that enable the direction and oversight of Agile production. Most of this is focused on backlog (requirements) collection and management). On a scale of 1 to 5, the Project Management axis got a score of 1.5, while other areas were scored 3 or more.

An advantage to this kind of numerical scoring is that it helps set a baseline to measure improvement over time.  We've recommended an action plan and will return in 90 days to re-assess and  gauge progress.

Technical Debt Webinar

Posted By David Parker, Wednesday, November 30, 2011
A colleague of mine, Michael James, will deliver a webinar on Monday, December 5 at 11:00 PST on Technical Debt. He's going to look at the impact of Scrum on technical debt, with its short iterations and mandate for production quality code at the end of each sprint. He'll also explore how teams balance paying down technical debt against short term business objectives.

DevOps and Agile

Posted By David Parker, Monday, November 28, 2011

True enterprise Agility happens when an organization isn’t just "doing” Agile, but in fact, are Agile. One facet of that can be seen when application development and IT operations are fully coordinated.  This is DevOps - a formalized set of processes, methods and systems for communication, collaboration and integration between development and operations teams. As a strategic direction, DevOps recognizes the interdependence of applications development and IT operations, and formalizes/institutionalizes their cooperation.

There are some interesting DevOps/Agile session at HP Discover in Vienna this week which will help you learn more.
